TV Buying Guide
There are several factors to consider before deciding what kind of TV
will best suit your needs. It's important to know what you want from
your TV. If you want to build a home cinema for instance a
widescreen stereo TV would be preferable to a smaller monaural set.
Screen Size
The size of the screen Even a small increase in the diagonal screen
size makes a big difference to viewing pleasure. For the home cinema
enthusiast a large screen is essential - but the bigger the screen,
the higher the price!
Sound - mono or stereo?
Many TV programmes and practically all films
are transmitted in stereo - and if the recording is made in Dolby
Stereo it is possible to listen in multiple channel Dolby Pro Logic
sound with impressive sound quality.
The TV and film industry have
put great effort into producing dynamic and realistic sound but
until recently TVs were manufactured with only one small speaker.
Even a modern TV with two speakers may only project the sound in
single channel mono.
A stereo TV has two separate sound channels
that give a more realistic, deeper and dynamic sound.
A stereo TV can also be connected to a Hi-Fi or
to cinema sound equipment picking up the stereo signal to give even
better sound quality.
Dolby Surround On today's market you can find TVs with complete
built-in Dolby Pro Logic. This results in a sound quality that
emanates from all directions without having to connect the TV to any
stereo equipment.
